Jim Corbett National Park is established in 1936 to protect the endangered Bengal Tiger, The Park was the first to come under the Project Tiger initiative.
Location: Ramnagar, Nainital District, Uttarakhand
Route: The town of Ramnagar is the headquarters of Corbett Tiger Reserve. There are overnight trains available from Delhi to Ramnagar (RANIKHET EXPRESS (15013), SAMPARKRANTHI EXPRESS (15035). One can hire a taxi to reach Ramnagar.
Area: 520.8 km2 (hills, riverine belts, marshy depressions, grasslands and a large lake); the elevation ranges from 1,300 to 4,000 ft
Forest type: Dense moist deciduous forest (73% of park) mainly consists of sal, haldu, peepal, rohini and mango trees.
Fauna: 50 species of mammals, 586 bird species and 33 reptile species, 7 species of Amphibians, 7 species of fish, 36 species of dragonflies.
Birds: including the crested serpent eagle, blossom-headed parakeet and the red jungle fowl — ancestor of all domestic fowl Owls and nightjars
Mammals: Bengal tiger, Indian Elephants, Leopards, jungle cat, fishing cat and leopard cat, barking deer, sambar deer, hog deer and chital, sloth and Himalayan black bears, Indian grey mongoose, otters, yellow-throated martens, Himalayan goral, Indian pangolins, and langur and rhesus macaques
Flaura: 110 tree species, 488 different species of plants
Camp schedule:
23rd May: Reporting Ramnagar via Delhi at 5.00am. (Train reaches Ramnagar at 5:00am)
Fresh up and early breakfast from Ramnagar. Leaving to Dhikala by 6:30am (members traveling to Ramnagar by road have to reach Jim Crobett Motel at Ramnagar by 6:00am) gypsy to Dhikala will not wait beyond 6:30am at Corbett Motel.
23rd afternoon check in and lunch at Dhikala then SAFARI
Evening Session: Interaction at 7:00pm-8-30pm. 8:45 dinners
24th and 25th May: Morning and afternoon safari, interaction session at 7:00pm-8-30pm daily.
26th May: Morning safari, 1:00 pm lunch, afternoon safari and drive back to Ramnagar. 10: pm train from Ramnagar to Delhi (CORBETT PARK LINK-25014) (THE ONLY TRAIN AVAILABLE)
Journey from Ramnagar – Dhikala on 23rd
Food from 23rd lunch to 26th lunch (23rd breakfast and 26th dinner not included)
Morning and Evening safari from 23rd-26th in open gypsy with 4 sharing, guide and driver.
Stay at Dhikala dormitory 12 sharing. Single bed for each with cooler and ceiling fan. (Neat and clean)
Food at Dhikala canteen; buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner (vegetarian) morning breakfast will have egg.
General note:
Temperature at this time would be around 40 during afternoon.
Safari timings are 6:00-10:30 morning and 3:30-6:30 afternoon (slight variation in time can be expected according to sunrise and sun set ,more or less same as mentioned)
Breakfast can be had in between safari as canteen and stay is inside the national park itself.
The camp is secured by electric fence, during night elephant trumpeting and tiger roaring can be head.
Camp has full time power supply with very feeble cell phone coverage. BSNL and IDEA only works.
No using cell phone outside the camp premises.
