Fine Art Photography: Possibilities and Challenges
Speaker: Balakrishnan Koyyal (Former Head, AIR, Kochi, Folklorist and Creative Photographer)
Balakrishnan Koyyal has extensive exposure in the area of visual culture and creative photography. Former Head of All India Radio, Kochi, he is a senior media personality and folklore researcher.
He has extensively travelled in Indian states carrying out research and documentation on Tribes, Culture and Folklore.
He has written several books and research papers on Culture, Folklore, Media Studies, Photography and Local History and presented research papers in seminars conducted by universities and research institutions within and outside India. His last international presentation was at the Annual Meeting of the American Folklore Society at Baltimore, USA in October 2019. He has also contributed as the lead researcher in exploring the impact of the Kerala disasters 2018 on culture under the study ‘Leaving No One Behind: Lessons from Kerala Disasters’, published in 2019 by the Mathrubhumi Group.
He is the president of Kannur based Creative Photographers’ Forum and has participated in group and individual Photography Exhibitions at various centres.
He served as a member of Board of Studies, University of Calicut and presently, is a Member of Committee on Cultural Museum, Govt. of Kerala.
