In keeping with our mission to preserve the cultural and social identity of India through photographic documentation, PHOTOMUSE is proud to announce its first annual Grant for Discovery through Social Documentation.
Grant:
Supported by PhotoMuse advisor and internationally known photographer Herbert Ascherman, the Discovery grant of INR 50,000 will be awarded to a young photographer who demonstrates:
1. A willingness to undertake, explore and extensively study an area of Indian Culture over the period of one year
2. Broad visionary and technical competence
3. The ability to produce a portfolio of professionally presented images to be exhibited at the PHOTOMUSE museum in Kodaly,
then travel to places like Thrissur etc.
Submissions: The last date for submission is June 30, 2016.
Prospective participants will submit a portfolio digitally for review by the PhotoMuse Grants Committee. The portfolio will consist of:
1. A written pro-forma (proposal) as to the photographer’s suggested project detailing his interests and reasons for doing so.
The proposal should cover specifics such as:
– The reason/purpose for the study
– What effects or change (if any) on the subject studied will the project have both short term and long term.
– Expenses incurred by the photographer in pursuit of his project
– Additional or outside support needed to undertake or complete the project (other organizations, social services, city/state functionaries, travel, etc.)
2. A minimum of 15 – 20 images that demonstrate the photographer’s competency with the technical aspects of photography
3. Images that explore a subject beyond the photographer’s comfort
4. Images that represent the photographer’s ability to understand and capture the complexities of a long-term project
5. A definitive timeline for all activities that is updated regularly and maintained in the PhotoMuse office.
Acceptance
Selected candidate will be informed by e-mail / phone / post to attend for an interview.
OTHER INFORMATION
- All applicants must be between 18 and 40 years of age.
- All applicants must be citizens of India, either living in country or abroad.
- Proof of age and citizenship must accompany the application
- Applicants need not be a subscribed member of PhotoMuse. The successful member is supposed to enroll as a Privilege Member of the organization to be eligible for the grant.
- Candidate will send monthly reports as to his progress in the project.
- Funding payments: After 2 months of the project the applicant can apply for 1/3 of the money to help with expenses etc. 2/3 of the money will be paid after the completion and final delivery of the project at PhotoMuse Office.
- Funds may be used for living or travel expenses while undertaking the project, but MAY NOT be used for the purchase of equipment.
- The final project should contain a significant number of still photographs as the main result. It should also contain a project report written in Malayalam & English or English alone. The participant has the freedom to include edited motion picture as well, which is not compulsory.
- The copyright of all material will remain with the photographer. PhotoMuse reserves the right to copy and reproduce any work accepted with attribution to the photographer for the promotion of the PhotoMuse in any manner necessary or for future programming. A copy of the project and the images will be preserved in the PhotoMuse Collection which is to be used for academic activities and exhibitions.
- Any subsequent publication or promotion of the work by the photographer must carry the PHOTOMUSE logo and name etc.
