He was trained as a physician. Took up painting and drawing from school days and graduated to photography in 1999. His special interests are nature and fine art. Widely published nationally and internationally; authored half a dozen books on photography and butterflies of southern India. He has exhibited his work in US (The Cleveland Museum) and Germany (Industry & Film Museum, Wolfen) in addition to several venues in India. He has also curated three international exhibitions and several national exhibitions of photography. Received ARPS title from Royal Photographic Society, London, in 1998. Ministry of Culture, Gov. of India, awarded him Senior Fellowship in Creative Photography (2014-15).
